SRB Accreditation & Communique updates

Post by RSQ » Wed Nov 04, 2015 2:38 pm

Does anyone know why it takes so long to send out SRB communique updates and why it is so difficult to update the accreditation list? I could post my list if they need assistance due to staff shortages ;)

Emergency NSW is an agency that time forgot. It operates in some kind of vacuum that equalises air pressure every 5 or 6 months.
While there is the September SRB communique outstanding, the SEMC is even worse with both the June & September communiques yet to see light of day.

Mainly because it is not actually an agency. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is the 'coordinating ' agency, however the SEMC and SRB report directly to the Minister. It is a mixed bag.

It all needs a review, a large review. Generally an Act of Parliament should last 30 years, and generally from the 20th year of an Act, a review should commence to replace an Act to reflect what is required for the next 30 years. The SES and SERM Acts have done their time and need change, and after which the Rural Fires and Fire Acts should really be updated to reflect those changes.

The SES Act may receive a major revamp with the merging of LGAs as a catalyst and modernise the responsibilities of the organisation such as ....really... should the community expect a volunteer organisation be responsible for flood rescue in one of the world's largest cities? I have no issue of their roles in floods or even being a expert agency in responding to flood rescue, but time to move with the expectations of response.

Meeting December 2015
The standing down of the RFS Commissioner was to be expected, he cannot have a role in rescue and be the chairman of the SRB at the same time. The extra ordinary meeting at Dubbo, is probably because they are looking at the rescue functionality of all services towards 2020.
